Evidence of the Earth's struggles
On our adventures along our Slice of America we will see a lot of evidence of our earth's changes through its life. It is rather amazing that evidence of how our earth was formed is still visible after so many years.
PBS has a really interesting program called "How the earth was born". The series is very well done. I recorded "Birth of the Earth"and "Astroids" for the children to watch on the trip. It has a lot on geology that we will see. I will be bringing compasses and magnets for the kids too.

When We Hit "90 Days to Go"
Cathy and I had a "moment" yesterday......oh, my gosh! Almost 3 months before take off! Can we do it? Will everything be ready, will we forget something! Well, as long as we have all those aboard that are going, we will be fine. And goodness knows, with all the detailed planning we've done we will probably be more like the pioneer covered wagon trains and be jettisoning along the way.
I just sent in an order for new brushes and supply of paint, so I will be ready on that score. So glad I toned all the canvases and made the wet boxes early!
So far so good on the "child locator" working. Ben was hiding with it to see if we could find him and it worked...we thought he went outside but the locator showed us he was in the entry closet. Cathy was so sure he went out, she really jumped when she opened the closet and he was there! We will give our yahs or nahs while we are on the trip in June. See more about it at: http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/child-locator.html

Aunt Edna is in physical therapy
She is doing her workouts. Jenny is with her today which is a very good thing because I am getting a cold or something and I don't want to give it to her. She is doing really well considering her age, 95, and her dementia. She was able to walk about 16 feet and turn in a walker to sit on the bed. So far, so good. I do worry about if something should happen to her while we are gone but I have to put that at the back of my mind. She has good people watching her and Jen will be there too. And...we will have phones. Since I have been in charge of her affairs for 15 years now I guess I am just in gear to worry about her.

Our new lantern stand
Some how, some where, the lantern stand we made in the 1960's disappeared some years ago. So my sweetie is out in the garage coming up with a new one. Getting the lantern up in the air, not just on the table really makes a difference in lighting up a campsite.
Our Junior Reporters
Once our wagon train gets on the road on June 9, 2010 my grandson and his cousin will lend a hand to reporting events here on our trip. They will have their cameras and it should be quite enlightening on what they find interesting. I will be filling in as Senior Editor.

How not to loose our littlest tree hugger!
Little "T", my grandson is probably the most active of our whole wagon train. He is interested in everything and tries everything dispite a few limitations caused by Down's Syndrome. He loves just doing everything! Because I have this fear of him slipping off when we are not looking I ordered a BrickHouse Child Locator. Great thing if it works! And we have time to really try it out. You can set the distance he can go away from you before an alarm on you triggers. It has a visual directional guidance to show you the direction to find him. We are all good about always checking where he is but there is always that chance and we don't want him to end up climbing up Mt. Rushmore or at the bottom of the Meteor Crater on his own! Can't wait to try it out. It will help me from always worrying about him while we are camping.

I think we need a mascot.
You know, something like the gnome that gets his picture taken all over the world. Hmmmmm, what would be a good mascot?

I've Added a Visitor Map!
The children will be excited to see where visitors to our site live. I'm sure they will be checking it every day. Great for learning the countries of the world!
We will be visiting 11 states so there will be lots of geography.
